Mahabaleshwar, the Ethiopia:

Updated: Jun 15, 2019

I am a Mumbaikar. It has probably fetched this attribute due to the race everyone participates every day. Even I run my family members too. But, like every responsible Head of the Family, I too decided to give a break to this race. And the best option which struck my mind for the same was a short trip to my one of the most beloved weekend destination… Mahabaleshwar.

Venna lake

LOCATION: It’s a small town in Satara district in Maharashtra, It is a hill station located in the Sahyadri mountain range.

As this is the first blog I am writing, and I thought, it would be nice to start with my favourite destination.

It was May 2019, when the dates were feasible, we opted to go by road, chatting all along the road. The road journey from Mumbai to Mahabaleshwar is around 220 km, covered in 6 to 7 hours. The distance from Mumbai via, Pune road is around 260 km. I personally would like to recommend this romantic drive via, Mumbai Goa road. This road is very scenic. Right just after Polhadpur, we have to pass through Ambenali Ghat which is so beautiful and is around 38 km., it is best for photography.

In Mahabaleshwar there are many tourist points but I prefer resting in a hotel lawn and breathe fresh air. The fresh air, the scenic serenity, will actually transform you to Ethiopia. You will hardly find a place close to Mumbai with such a lovely climate. The temperature here is very pleasant especially at evenings and nights.

Wilson Point (Sunrise Point)

A stroll at the market place during the evening hours is like a pleasure to cherish. The market is free from traffic, and absolute tidy. That is the first thing which you will notice about this market. In the middle of the market, there is a Hanuman Mandir and at the end a Church, where we can reach out to God and thank him for giving us a feel of heaven on the hill top.

Oh, how can I miss out this part… The Eatery. There are lots of eatery stalls; you get fresh strawberry milk shake, fresh fruits, burgers, corn chaat, chikki, fudge, fruit jams, etc. They have the famous Elsies bakery of the town, which are running from ages, and they really excel in their cookies, rum ball and brownies. You must give it a try.

As per my experience, I hereby share some suggestions to you for your planning to Mahabaleshwar.

Ideal time: Dec-June is chilling, July to Nov is pleasant, but Monsoon time is the best

Mode of transport: Easy accessibility from Mumbai and Pune across road, bus.

Must visit spots: Shree Mahabaleshwar Mandir, Venna Lake, Wilson Point (Sunrise point), Arthur’s seat point, Elphinstone point, Kate’s point etc.

Hotel to stay: I love staying at May Fair Hotel, it’s not that fully furnished but quiet homely, you have lawn outside mostly in every room to relax and enjoy.
